Historians argue that the Cold War was not a large scale fight between States, but it was a war based on economic and political differences. For a reflection purpose, the paper will demonstrate a reflection on cold war around the world.
The cold war was being felt all around the world. The nations that were taking part in the war developed strategies of defending their opponent. Therefore, the introduction of a mutual assured destruction doctrine by both US and the Soviet Union which played a role in creating global peace (Maus 36). The MAD worked very well; it made both nations to be scared of striking the other because of the fear that if attacked because of some reasons by the other, the other country would retaliate with equal or even greater forces.
Globally, the key actors of the cold war were the United States of America and the Soviet Union which were the superpowers during that time. The local players were nations like Cuba, China, and Vietnam who were disregarding Soviet advice in the war against the American. These countries were playing games so as to benefits from all the superpowers.
During the cold war, the concept of totalitarian government was welcomed by the Soviet Union. The civilian populations were not happy with the notion, but their leaders thought it would be the best for them to use the philosophy of totalitarianism (Warren 365). Philosophers in the Soviet Union believed that the ideology provided answers to the mysteries of the past present and the future.
