The medieval world travel points to the idea of the Silk Road being a vast area. It points to a picture of a zone without civilization. In the sense that traders would be attacked and looting is the order of the day without the protection of the government. The interesting part is that those with the protection of the Khan would move freely and widely just like Marco Polo. The Italian is famous for traveling to Asia during this time and trading in the Silk Road. The protection he had from the government made his trips easier. The coverage of the road is also considered to have been very long. The distance is measured by the distance covered by Battuta. History records him as being the longest traveled. The video enforces on the very concept learned about the Silk Road and its dangers (Medieval world travels).
The Mongols might have been proud and fierce fighters, but there is little indication that they promoted trade with the west. Yes, there exist cases of Italians like Marco Polo who have been mentioned in their history but that is not enough reason to rush to this conclusion. The unsafe trade routes like the Silk Road are one reason to doubt if that was their reasoning. If there were a free trade, there would be no need for protection from the government to trade on the Silk Road. The Mongols ruled the world following the dreams of Genghis Khan.
