Post-World War II Europe
Perhaps the continent that was affected most by the two major world wars; World War I and World War II was Europe. After the Second World War Europe was thrown further into uncertainty because the major economic powers in the region, mostly occupying Western Europe had been too involved in the war and there suffered the repercussions. Germany, the former powerhouse in western Europe had lost shamefully to Germany was also destroyed from the war that its political and economic position hand in the balance. France had experienced a breakdown in its economic and political system in 1940 and was yet to recover. On the other hand, Britain had invested economically in the war and was too drained to offer any support (Urwin 2). In essence, no country in Europe could manage to rescue the situation or even take advantage of the state of affairs and embark in rebuilding Europe and claiming the power vacuum left by the war.
