Russia during and after World War 2
World War 2 began on 1st September 1939 and ended in 2nd September 1945. It directly involved more than a million people and over 30 countries drawn all over the world including the superpowers. Two opposing militaries, the allies, and the axis were formed. The axis included the Germany Italy and Japan while the allies had a combination of Britain, Australia, China, France, Canada the Soviet Union and the United States of America. The great patriotic war was fought between June 22nd, 1941 and May 9th, 1945 along many eastern fronts. The war was a theatre of conflict between the European axis powers and co-belligerent Finland against the soviet union, Poland and other allies that is southern, northern eastern and central of Europe
Immediately after World War 1, the treaty of breast litovsk was signed on 3rd March 1918 dictated by Germany to end hostilities between the German and the Russia. However, in a few months’ time, the Russian Left social revolutionaries shot down the German ambassador to Moscow with the aim of bringing up another war. What followed was deportation of the whole Soviet embassy under Adolph Joffe from German so as to give a support to the German revolution. Both sates had once common goal, to overthrow an earlier established system by World War 1 victors. Their relationship was now shaped with mistrust and fear that any of them could break out their diplomatic isolation and turn towards the French third republic and its ally the Polish Republic. When Adolf Hitler came to power, he created the Nazi German. Its economic relationship at the beginning was poor but later trade agreement and diplomatic initiatives were carried out through the 1930s. Conflicts escalated leading to the Spanish war which was fought between 1936 and 1939. The war had been sponsored by Berlin in favor of the Nazis and communists sponsored by the Moscow. In 1939 both countries made a turnabout and signed a Nazi – Soviet pact which gave rise to an agreement to divide the previously independent nations of East Europe. The pact was however short-lived as the Germans invaded USSR in 1941. The Soviets formed an alliance with the US and Britain and managed to push the Germans back and captured Berlin. Cold war came and left German divided with East German being controlled by the communist and Moscow. They employed military force in order to suppress an uprising in 1953. After the cold war and German reunification. German and Russia developed a strategic partnership that has allowed them to depend on one another for energy.
Stalin’s policies mostly economic and social aspects.it all began with the ‘great turn’ which saw the change of new economic policy to five-year plans. The main aim of this move was to change the country to a more industrialized economy as opposed to a capitalist set-up. Through it, Stalin gained a major control of the population which made him almost a totalitarian. Peasants who occupied 80% of the population were coerced to work hard and factories were pressured to produce more. The main aim of the five-year plan was to see the country increase grain supplies strengthen his military strength and move towards a socialist community which he partially achieved. He later purged his own military as the red army and focused on eliminating them from the army. This made him weak to fight back Hitler. Hitler invaded Russia and disrupted Stalin's plan during the third year. The last two years of his plan did not meet his expectation due to low oil production as earlier predicted. However, the industry sector still had a rapid growth and doubled since 1932. Transportation systems were broadened and luxury commodities decreased. After the world war, 2the fourth and fifth-year plan were introduced to rebuild and reindustrialize Russia again. Losses were experienced in all sectors and Russia had to seek assistance from the west which they declined and led to a cold war. Stalin died in 1953 halfway his five-year plan. On social policies, Stalin began the great retreat which made it difficult for women to be employed as doctors and engineers. He legalized and divorces so as to hinder population growth but later illegalized abortion and discouraged divorces in 1936. Stalin was a great force when it came to the World War 2.even though ...
