Clara Barton
Clara Barton is a self-taught nurse, benevolent, teacher, lobbyist, writer, humanitarian and founder of the American Red Cross. Because of her volunteer work during the Civil War, she was called the "Angel of War." Her life is dedicated to her work. She has never been married and has no children of her own. Although she is strong, she has been depressed for most of her life. She worked tirelessly until she was 90 years old (Campbell 98). Clara Barton is one of the greatest prominent champions of the American Civil War. She started an excellent education career but found that she was calling for soldiers wounded on the bloody civil war battlefield. After the war, Barton worked hard to find the missing and deceased soldiers and eventually founded the American Red Cross. She devoted her life to caring for others, and Barton has had an important and lasting impact on the care and disaster relief of the United States and the world.(Campbell 107)
