Recidivism is the relapse of criminal behavior after individuals have been convicted or punished for a previous offense. Therefore, a recidivist is an individual who re-offends or commits another crime after receiving parole from prison, terming it a violation of the parole (Yukhnenko et al. 22). For instance, in California, the state defines a recidivist as an individual who violates parole by committing a crime within three years of their release from prison or custody. Therefore, this essay seeks to provide a summary and evaluation of the story of Victoria Clarke. She has been in and out of prison severally for violating parole every time she gets released from custody.

She narrates to have been in prison five times since she was a teenager, with the longest term being eleven years and the shortest, six months having served in both the state and federal prisons.
