Private investigator refers to any person who accepts employment or is involved in the business of making investigations with an aim of obtaining crucial information on civil wrongs or crimes, the location, disposition or recovery of stolen goods (Becnel 43). Private investigators are also involved in gathering information concerning the cause of accidents, damages, fires or injuries to individuals and properties, or gathering any evidence that may be presented before any court of law, officer, board or investigative committee. The following are the mandatory requirements set by the Department of Criminal Justice System (DCJS) for those wishing to work as private investigators.
Age
For someone to quality to work as a private investigator, they must be at least 18 years old.
Education
The department of criminal justice system requires private investigators to have at least a high school diploma or its equivalent. It is worth noting that individuals may opt to acquire additional skills to help sharpen their investigative skills (Becnel 52). For example, a private investigator to understand computer forensics, a background in information systems can be very useful.
Experience
Private investigators must have past experience in law enforcement.
Armed vs. unarmed
For those who want to work as armed private investigators, they must obtain a permit. In order for someone to be issued with a permit to carry a firearm, they must meet the following requirements;
* One must be a citizen of the United States or have permanent legal immigrant status.
* One must pass a test on ethics in citizen arrest.
* They must also pass a course in carrying and using firearms. This particular training covers topics like firearms nomenclature, weapon handling and fundamentals of shooting, range training and emergency procedures. It is worth noting that this training must be given by a firear...
