Amending the constitution to extend or reduce the term limit for the head of the state or the two houses will create a loophole for numerous legal struggles in the country. For decades, the Constitution has enabled the peaceful transition of power from one government to the other. Therefore, any interference with the current wording or design of the Constitution will only welcome several decades of legal issues as the country tries to achieve decorum.
Amending the constitution to change the term limits will attract more changes. Many of the clauses in the document are interrelated. Therefore, editing one section will result in numerous changes, an aspect that will lengthen the document, thereby making it more complex for implementation. The loopholes will affect the level of governance and create an environment of uncertainty which can be exploited to introduce other policy changes. A specific term limit has played a significant role in enabling the government to set its goals and objectives. Therefore, making changes will only create room for complacency because either the government will have more or less time to complete the set goals. This will affect service delivery.
