There is a wide gap concerning the fate of Achilles after he had Killed Hector (Naggy). There is no narration of the death of Achilles in the Iliad apart from the prediction that had been made by Hector. There is no actual information regarding the real turn of events at the time of the death of the great hero Achilles.
The achievement of Iliad in narrowing down the mythology on a few themes
There are various thematic aspects brought about by the Iliad that is fundamental. The first topic was glory in times of war basis on the bravery and competence in battle (Martin). There is eminent death in wars. There is a contrast perception regarding military and familial ties. Hector is rather portrayed as was the situation with Hector wanting to fight among the upper echelons of war and the probable danger of orphaning his child. Another evident thematic aspect brought about is the temporariness of life and as a result of war. There is coverage of human experiences in the Iliad as is the portrayal of the compressed nature of the narrative. The occurrence of the event is only a span of days out of a war that has been ongoing for over ten years. There is the use of a shield in a war that is impactful and the key to the turn of events in the whole war. The shield is a reflection of life in its entirety. Fire is another recurring image in the Iliad which is depiction of the rage or fury internally in contrast to the external manifestation. Burial in the Iliad is another attention devoted as an honor to a warrior. It might be the notion that proper burial was on the basis that the soul should rest in peace but rather in the Iliad it can be an indication that human life is not permanent.
The type of hero Achilles is following the narrowed focus
There is a grafting of the shield is that there are two cities one in peace and another at war. The shield has various scenes of harvesting, battle, marriage and shepherding.
The shield of Achilles is therefore a symbol of the interlink nature of time f war and peace in the ancient Greek world. The battle is compared to marriage or harvest which is fundamental in an individual’s live. As a representative of humanity, Achilles is the representative of humans and with unique strength. Therefore following the narrowed focus the perception is that Achilles is the carrier of the world through the shield and also as the Achaeans’ hero and the chief steer of success.
