Colombia and United States
Colombia, a South American country, has a GNP per capita of 11,890 PPP dollars, according to the most recent records, which were from 2013 (The World Bank Group Web). Furthermore, the Colombian major industries range from production of petroleum, tobacco and sustaining a healthy tourism endeavor. The Colombian country is large, which makes it challenging to have a leading religion. However, most of the Colombian citizens are affiliated with the Catholic faith. It is notable that the country contains indigenous languages, but the majority of the citizens are Spanish-speakers.
The United States is a vast country found in North America and has a GNP per capita of 53,960 PPP dollars (The World Bank Group Web). The size of the US has enabled it to become a leader in various industries around the world. Its primary industries revolve around oil and gas production, mining, agribusiness, exploiting renewable energies, medical equipment, and construction equipment and services. The US is affiliated with several religions, but Christianity is predominant in the country. There is no national language in the country, but English is commonly used among by of the citizens.
Immigration between the two countries, the US, and Colombia is a frequent occurrence. However, statistics reveal that the immigration is heavier on one side than the other is since the Colombians move to the US more than Americans move to Colombia. Data discloses that about seven hundred thousand Colombians moved into the US in 2013. However, not all the immigrants moving to the USA from Colombia are legal. The lack of the required documents is one of the main causes of illegal immigration from Colombia to the USA. Colombia has been established to hub several immigrants from other countries with the aim of shipping them to the USA. As such, the country has been recording increased immigrants from the country and into the US region.
One of the leading reasons that prompt Colombians to look for a way from their country to the US is the economic difference between the two nations. The USA is known to be among the major countries in the world with a stable economy. Based on the above GNP per capita records, the economies of the two economies differ significantly (The World Bank Group Web). Furthermore, the USA boasts of more job opportunities with high remunerations than Colombia. Such conditions force Colombians to seek every possible channel they can use to get into the USA territory. Living conditions in the US have been established to be better than in Colombia, which is another strong reason for the high immigration rate. Recorded data reveal that most of the immigrants are male who seek to improve their relatives’ lives by sending them money back in Colombia after migrating to the US. The same conditions are the leading reasons for the low migrations from the USA to Colombia. The circumstances in Colombia are not as appealing as in the USA. The few immigrants moving from the US to Colombia are mostly the illegal settlers being moved back to their country of origin.
The end of the 18th century was a period that marked the beginning of the US and Spanish American Revolutions (Sexton Web). The revolutions involved the wars against colonialism in both the North and South Americas (Sexton Web). The wars were ongoing simultaneously in both continents, which was a hindrance to any colonial relationship between USA and Colombia. Despite the lack of any colonial connection between USA and Colombia, the two countries have had other forms of relationships. Firstly, cultural exchange has been occurring between the two nations since immigration begun. As established before, the US uses English as its primary language while Colombia has Spanish. The language difference between the two countries is the leading cause of cultural exchange. Once the Colombians migrate to the US, they have to adopt the way of life in a new land. They need to learn English since it is an extremely common language in the US. Additionally, they embrace the American’s ways life in the hopes of fitting the new community. Same case applies when citizens of the US move to Colombia. They have to learn the languag...
