Statistics are all around us. Every person applies statistics in their daily lives. They can derive conclusions by making an analysis of their to-do list and make a concrete decision. We can arrive at what to eat by analyzing the type of food available in a home and decide which kind of meal can be prepared. We can also decide what route to take while making our way to work by finding out which road has less congestion. There is no good nor is bad statistics, what matters which is best suitable to our lives
In a study area, students are usually required to make observations of a population of an area of study. Some may opt to analyze a large population and some may prefer to take a sample of a given population for analysis. However, the results may differ. In a larger population of study, scholars or researchers are focused in deriving the general scope of results of a study. While for a sample of an area of study, the researchers may be focused on a particular area of study. Thus, this usually derives a specific result whereas for the latter, the results are general. This is described as Descriptive Statistics and Inferential Statistics respectively.
Regardless of the two statistics used together in most research, they greatly differ. In Inferential Statistics, it is mostly used in areas of study that need comparison due to their minor differences. Areas of such study include; population of a particular region and mathematical methods. This kind of research is useful for scientists who have prior knowledge towards subjects and need to make valid and concrete conclusions to the various results arrived.
In Descriptive statistics, it is suitable for an already experienced researcher who has a great experience in handling the various elements of research. She/he needs to be very keen, particular to details and open minded to the type of results that may be derived. The researcher may need to be alert and acquire ...
