Interconnection of Mathematics and Statistics (Essay Sample)

Instructions:

This essay seeks to identify the interconnection between mathematics and statistics. The research established that the two disciplines are intertwined and complement each other. The concept of probability is anchored on various mathematical techniques, such as integration and differentiation. The standing pillars of statistics are largely probability theory, numerical analysis, and algorithms. Despite the differences in professional applicability, mathematics and statistics complement each other and share basic principles.

Interconnection of Mathematics and Statistics
Statistics and mathematics are inextricably intertwined, and the two disciplines complement each other. Some techniques used in pure math, such as integration and differentiation, are used to solve statistical problems like finding the cumulative probability from the probability distribution function and vice versa. However, their fields of study, discipline, and applicability are different even though they overlap. For this reason, a mathematics Ph.D. and a statistics equivalent will not teach the same upper-level or graduate courses. Despite the differences in professional applicability, mathematics and statistics complement each other and share basic principles.
Solving statistical problems entails the application of various mathematical theories and techniques, such as probability theory, decision theory, and optimization. Whereas mathematics focuses on studying different types of structures, which are essentially abstract, statistics, on the other hand, is a study of guessing (Reck and Schiemer 128). Indeed, the standing pillars of statistics are largely probability theory, numerical analysis, and algorithms. Still, other than the probability theory, which is a detailed section of modern mathematics, none of the other portions are part of what one should call advanced mathematics. Algorithms and numerical approximations are, for the fact, used in some other subjects, such as economics, theoretical computer science, information theory, and others. So, statistics is a vast subject that essentially uses a lot of mathematics but is no
