Should People Be Allowed To Keep Exotic Animals Like Chimpanzees Or Tigers?
Have we ever thought of having a chimpanzee or a tiger as a pet instead? These animals are referred to as exotic pets and they have gained popularity around the world. Do you think it is easy to tame a wild animal? The issue of keeping exotic pets such as a tiger or chimpanzee has been a contentious topic with animal activists up in arms over the issue. All of us love pets and we limit it to regular pets while some of us have extended their love of pets to animals like chimpanzees and tigers. Before considering taking a chimpanzee or a tiger as a pet, it is imperative to evaluate the advantages and the disadvantages of having them as pets. According to the Schuppli, and Fraser, it is estimated that, an average of 3.5 people die from attacks from exotic people (360). For this reason, people should not be permitted to have chimpanzees or tigers as pets. Exotic animals are born in the wild, and are meant to remain in the wild because they can spread deadly diseases to human beings, and they are at times abandoned and end up developing health issues. Most exotic animals are abused around the world by people who do not give them the care they need. In addition, chimpanzees and tigers are unpredictable and they can end up attacking their owners or anyone near them. Therefore, citizens should not be permitted to have chimpanzees or tigers as pets due to the problems they have with their owners.
Exotic animals like tigers and chimpanzees are known culprits in pet attacks, and these animals are dangerous. There are many reported incidences of people who have been injured or murdered by exotic animals that are kept as pets (Tynes 134). People should reconsider their stance on taking chimpanzees and tigers as pets because; they are putting their lives at risk. Exotic pets like chimpanzees and tigers are innately dangerous to the owners and the whole community. According to Rettner, exotic pets are harmful and should not be kept in our homes (livescience.com); therefore, people should avoid keeping them.
Wild animals will always remain wild, and when taken as pets, they can never get the best care they need. Animals like chimpanzees and tigers are born in the wild and are used to wild food and the wild life, and if taken as pets, they are caged and this affects their free lifestyle in the wild. These animals are used to running in the wild, and when caged as pets, they do not get enough exercise that they need, and this brings them health issues (Fraser 178). Therefore, exotic animals should be left to stay in the wild where the climate favors them and they are free.
Even though some people argue that, people should keep exotic animals as pets in order to learn them and that people get bored with regular pets (Wagman 67). Arguing like this is unrealistic because, if we want to learn about these exotic pets, we can search on the internet, read from the books and even visit the zoos. Furthermore, the argument that people can get bored with regular pets is unrealistic. Regular pets have been there since time immemorial, and people are still keeping them, meaning people do not get bored with them. There are many books about exotic animals and even television channels to teach us about exotic animals, we do not have to take them as pets in order to learn them.
In conclusion, taking into account the points mentioned above, people should not be allowed to keep exotic animals such as chimpanzees and tigers. First, these animals are dangerous and they can end up attacking their owners. Secondly, these animals are born in the wild and are predestined to stay untamed because they will have enough exercises, and get the right food. In addition, chimpanzees and tigers are unpredictable and they can end up attacking their owners or anyone near them. Therefore, people should not be allowed to keep exotic animals like chimpanzees or tigers as pets because, they can develop health issues and also cause problems to the owners. Therefore, keeping exotic animals should be banned completely because, the number of injuries and diseases...
