Childhood obesity as a social problem
Childhood obesity is becoming a major global problem today. Although most people view it as a personal problem, it involves various social issues which make it a social phenomenon. "Health care professionals also tend to perceive the parent as blameworthy ". The lifestyle, diet, and education factors cause it (Ahima, 2013).
Young people eat a lot of high-carbohydrate and high-fat fast foods from hotels. They don’t usually take more traditional foods which are very healthy and highly recommended. Lifestyle also causes obesity. Some parents do not encourage their children to do body exercises. Instead, after finishing their homework, they sit down the whole day and watch television or play computer games. Parents also lack knowledge about good eating habits and balanced diets. They, therefore, do not teach their children on good nutritional habits (Ahima, 2013).
