A myth is a traditional story, particularly concerning someone's early life or describing a social or natural phenomenon and typically includes supernatural beings or things. Traditional mythologies include the Egyptian Mythology: Ra (Youngquist). Ra was the Sun God, often regarded as the most significant of the Egyptian deities. Ra created the world at the beginning of time after emerging from chaos. Ra was a Pharaoh who also ruled. Other than being a god. Many Egyptian monarchs thought they were related to Ra and deserved the throne. An illustration of an indigenous religious narrative is the Navajo emergence myth (Busatta ). Traditional Navajos hold that the Dine Bahane', or "Story of Navajo creation," was given to the Navajo people by the Holy Beings. The Holy Being, known as "Changing Woman," created the Navajo clans, " who protected humans from the earth's deadly beasts.

The basic goal of a myth is to defend a ritual without making any real effort to prove any justification for the rite. At the beginning of the 20th century, many scholars believed that myths could explain societal customs and ideals in their earliest forms (Juergensmeyer et al.).
