Collaboration and Leadership Reflection Video
I would like to gladly welcome you to this Kaltura video presentation for cooperation and leadership for NURS4010: Leading people, processes, and organizations in interprofessional practice. My name is (**************** *) and I will deliver this video. I hope to have communicated principles of collaboration and leadership effectiveness by the end of this presentation.
We want to accomplish the following by the conclusion of the presentation:
* Consider the instances of collaboration and multidisciplinary encounters that have occurred.
* Identify cases of ineffective cooperation that result in inadequate resource management.
* Determine the most effective leadership tactics for fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to accomplish the defined objectives.
* Determine the most influential interdisciplinary cooperation method for assisting the team in achieving the defined goals.
* Recognize the critical nature of having an effective communication plan to enhance leadership and effective communication.
It is prudent to have a working knowledge of the subjects being addressed.
On the one hand, interdisciplinary collaboration is a performance and leadership strategy that tries to create an atmosphere that promotes better connections and understanding among colleagues and healthcare professionals. Enhanced multidisciplinary collaboration guarantees that participating nations work together to achieve shared objectives. The fact that they appear together in the title of this presentation demonstrates the significance of teamwork for leadership (Sullivan, Kivosky, Mason, Hill & Dukes, 2015). To help students comprehend this fundamental technique, specific temporal occurrences are employed. Two critical watching programs that emphasize the significance of teamwork and leadership will be included.
Sentinel Event One
In the first case, there is malpractice, which is very harmful to the patient. Patients are given various medications suited for treating diverse health issues as a result of prescription mistakes. Following the administration of the preceding medications, the patient started to experience a racing heart, nausea and even vomiting. I became concerned when I realized I was the one giving the medications. I spoke to my bosses, physicians, and pharmacists about the situation. They all worked together to determine what was causing the problem, and the fault was discovered shortly after. They demonstrate how bad the situation is and even accept responsibility for it collectively. They reassured me that everything would be alright, and I felt a surge of confidence. The patient was likewise treated and was able to improve his situation. If no coordinated action is taken, the issue may not be discovered in time, and the patient's performance may be worse than predicted.
Sentinel Event 2
I observed a scenario when a patient was murdered on another occasion while working at a smaller health center. I'm new to this show and want to demonstrate that I can perform as a nurse. On tour, I overheard an agonizing moan from one of the stations during the night shift. I raced over to assist the patient and saw that he had vomited blood and had bruises on his stomach. I raced to contact the manager, and we simultaneously dialed the doctor's number, seeing how bad the matter was. He didn't seem to be in a rush, and he even chastised us for phoning him about minor issues that we could handle ourselves. He arrived two hours late, but it was too late since the patient had already been sent to the mortuary. We did all we could to save his life, but we were unable.
The doctor warned us with dire consequences if his name was mentioned, as it had been with so many others before us. The supervisor informed me that there is a hostile connection between healthcare personnel, particularly nurses and physicians. Doctors have a negative attitude toward nurses, which harms their relationships and teamwork. It has impacted a large number of other healthcare workers. Over the following several months, I saw more of this. I eventually left since it was not a pleasant working atmosphere, nor was it conducive to providing the best possible care to patients.
Synopsis of Analysis
The two examples given are based on two real-life occurrences that demonstrate the significance of teamwork. The first event demonstrated the value of teamwork and the importance of improving patient safety. The second example demonstrates the detrimental consequences of a non-collaborative setting.
Let's have a look at managing resources next.
It is undeniable that competent governance and leadership are conducive to effective resource management. Resources are lost as a result of ineffective collaboration. Every organization considers people and financial resources to be the most significant resources. In the case of the Sentinel occurrences discussed above, it is evident that one scenario might result in considerable savings due to its decision, while the other suffers resource losses. In the second Sentinel incident, the situation sparked a chain of events that culminated in a protracted court struggle that resulted in the patient's family receiving substantial compensation. Weberg, Porter-O'Grady, Mangold, and Malloch (2018) reported that numerous staff was laid off.
The patient was so satisfied with how the employees operated that he didn't even file a claim after the mistake. On the other hand, due to solid coordination, the hospital avoided responsibilities that might have had a significant impact on the corporation in the first Sentinel incident. It ultimately boils down to leadership, and effective leadership boosts productivity.
Collaboration-Related Leadership Strategies
Collaboration is a critical component of effective leadership. Influential leaders must be able to foster a collaborative workplace. There are many more aspects of leadership that help people collaborate better, and we'll go through a few of them in this section (Ferreira, Barbosa, Esposti & Cruz, 2019). Communication is, in my opinion, the first and most vital factor. Communication is a critical leadership quality as well as a tool for teamwork. For collaboration to succeed, good communication is essential. When working together, different health professionals need to be able to communicate effectively. They will increase patient safety and assure the best possible results (Weberg et al., 2018).
Another trait of leadership that is typical of collaboration is teamwork. Effective teamwork is the foundation of collaboration. Teamwork entails collaborating well with others to attain a shared objective. Teamwork is included in the concept of collaboration, demonstrating its relevance in establishing and building connections, enabling communication, and fostering a successful workplace (Sullivan, Kivosky, Mason, Hill & Dukes, 2015)
Next, we'll look into Collaborative Strategies.
Collaboration and leadership are difficult to discern, and the two tactics outlined before are also identical to cooperation. Let's look at two additional ways that might help you collaborate more effectively. Delegation is the first step. It's also used to describe a person's ability to lead. It's a strategy geared at empowering individuals, increasing their talents, creating trust and recognizing their limits, and learning how to collaborate effectively with others. Collaboration brings together a diverse group of individuals and helps them develop together via delegation (Sullivan et al., 2015). Punctuality is another approach for collaboration. Different departments work to deadlines, and meeting and respecting those deadlines is critical. When healthcare professionals
