Entre Nos is a 2009 movie directed by Paola Mendoza and Gloria La Morte based on true story involving a woman who does what she has to do for her survival ("Woodstock Film" Film) Festival. Women have largely fallen victims of cultural and societal differences in various parts of the world. Also, it is evident that poverty pushes very many people to the wall especially children and women yet at times, there is very little that can be done to help this situation because the society is not ready to help. Looking at the movie, it shows an example of men’s irresponsible behaviors towards their families which is a common situation that really plunges mothers into a real battle of providing and paying bills single handedly for their children.
Entre Nos has exposed some of the deep and painful sufferings women and children undergo due to cultural and societal difference as well as the cruelty of poverty facing individuals and families in the foreign land.
Role of a husband is very huge in every family regardless of the situation the family undergoes. A father would always provide support both emotionally and materially. Entre Nos shows the audience a suffering Mariana with her two little children after her husband abandons them in Queens, New York ("Woodstock Film" Film). Webster explains that Mariana’s life is really devastated and she experiences numerous types of stress as a result of the misfortunes. She desperately moves from door to door in searching for at least job hiring that can sustain her but all are in vain. After fruitless search for job hiring, Mariana is prompted by circumstances to venture into container recycling business. This is evident that suffering may at one point trigger an individual’s creativity. Mariana and her two children manage to dodge drastic suffering by their new business thus seeing the family growing even stronger through their struggles. The movie represents some of the challenges facing women in their single status in the society.
It is undeniable from the movie that women’s place in the society has drastically changed because just like men, they can work and think through their sufferings. The film is very inspiring and motivational to every single mother who may be struggling to make ends meet by reminding them that even during cruelest of times, things will always get better. Webster asserts that Mariana refused to give up on her struggles and she successfully manages to eke out thus making it a bittersweet movie recounting the resilience of human spirit (Web). This is actually a real family life which makes viewers to deeply appreciate what they do in life.
Mendoza and La Morte have clearly shown what happens in the society especially the actions a mother can take during an unthinkable situation without support of the husband (Web). The heart tugging film further shows how valuable unconditional love can be amongst family members and further reflects the true tales of the society’s life. The movie which is shot by a foreigner reveals untold American stories which touches American issues and eventually exposes the country. Becoming homeless with children is a fascinating incident in an advanced and bigger economy such as the American’s. Interestingly, despite being kicked out of their apartment and there was no one to turn to, she does not even think of going back to Columbia.
Illegal immigrants are always faced by tough time growing in many American cities. Webster posits that Mariana learns it through hard way to cope with the street life and finally finds relieve after discovering the new venture of collecting containers (Web). Unfortunately, while the single mother and her two children suffer, none of the residents pay attention to their plight. This shows how rotten and disregardful a society can be. Discrimination and the idea of being more special than others cloud the larger society and no single person comes out to offer assistance.
