Evaluation of How Responsibility Leads to Success
A person's ability to be accountable for their acts, family, college education, and career goals is described as responsibility. The individual has to reach the desired level of achievement in life. If a person does not take responsibility for themselves, they will never succeed in whatever goal they set for themselves. When taking responsibility for our success, we must develop self-discipline, not be the product of our environment, take control of challenges that come our way, and hold ourselves accountable for our actions. This essay will evaluate how responsibility leads to success by analyzing the book “The Other Moore” by Wes Moore. Moreover, the essay will use evidence from sociological studies Malcolm Gladwell, David Dobbs, Jonah Lehrer, and Bruce Feiler to justify the theory that responsibility leads to success.
According to Malcolm Gladwell, "Responsibility is the willingness to accept the importance of standards that society establishes for individual behavior and to make strenuous personal efforts to live by those standards. But personal responsibility also means that when individuals fail to meet expected standards, they do not look around for some factor outside themselves to blame" (Gladwell, 57). This quote shows that individuals lose their sense of personal responsibility when they blame their inability to meet expectations on their families, friends, economic conditions, or environment. Being responsible means taking accountability for our actions and not depending on others to define who we are or how we act and make decisions. Even though we often face challenges that make it hard to reach our goals, taking responsibility for our choices and actions
