There has been a necessary change in the traditional male roles as a result of variations in myriad social factors. For instance, men were viewed to be the stronger sex, therefore, possessed traits such as intelligent, determined, and courageous. Women, on the other hand, were anticipated to take off from their work after marriage since men were considered to be the breadwinners. Therefore, men were expected to provide financial support for the family while the woman took part in domestic and childcare roles. According to crimes committed in the late 20th century, women were accounted for about 21 percent of the defendants. At this time, serious crimes were usually associated with the masculinity problem attributed to men. Men received a harsh treatment in the judicial systems as compared to women (Foucault 45). As a result, more cases of men incarceration have been witnessed than women.
Men were associated with an aggressive and selfish attitude while women were passion and emotion. As a result, felonies committed by men were more violent and taken more serious than females crimes. Gender roles have taken another turn as women are no longer responsible for taking care of the homestead and children. The rise of globalization has significantly affected men workers in workplaces as more men have secured jobs in both big and small and medium firms.
