Same-Sex Marriage
The gay rights movement won a landmark victory in the Supreme Court in favour of same-sex marriage. Vogue and diamond state that the Supreme Court carried out a vote that ruled in a 5-4 victory that the constitution would guarantee the right to same-sex marriage (1). Justice Anthony Kennedy stated that the liberty would no longer be denied to anyone. The paper will seek to explain the decision and my opinion towards same-sex marriage.
Marriage is one of the key foundations of the human social order. I believe that there should be equal dignity when anyone appears in the eyes of the law. Vogue and Diamond argue that the decision that was made had come after many decades’ activism and litigation (1). The decision led to tearful embraces and jubilation in many parts of the country. Some states witnessed the same-sex marriages for the first time although there were delays in others. I believe that marriage is an opinion that should be respected by all. The children who are raised up in same-sex marriages may suffer a stigma because they may feel that their families may appear to be lesser families.
