Summary Description of the Organization
The organization of choice is St. Wilfrid of York, the episcopal church on the beach of Huntington. It was established in 1947 by a few dedicated women who saw the need to develop a church building around Huntington Beach (St. Wilfrid). It later integrated preschool services into its operations. Thus, besides seeking God through Catholicism, it is both a preschool and a school facility designed for learners between 2 and 6 years. It also has a kindergarten affiliated to it. It is a nonprofit organization based on catholic faith to nurture the learners' spiritual, intellectual, and physical development through legally acceptable and religiously supported measures. Its mission is to value every child as being uniquely created by the creator and helping them to further their spiritual, moral, intellectual, physical and emotional development. It also fosters a strong relationship with Christ to serve him and to serve others diligently.
Its clients consist of children who wish to peruse their spiritual and intellectual curiosities to serve and relate with others rightfully. It is also made up of the entire catholic family around Huntington Beach to seek and serve God in truth and faith. Also, it is based on the virtue that everyone is unique in the creator's eyes and that each person has a close friendship with Jesus. Its structure has a school community, consisting of teachers and learners who work together in unison as a family and with the outside community. It operates on business days, from Monday to Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for school services. Church masses are conducted on Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and on Wednesdays from 7:15 a.m. However, for learning services, the clients may choose the number of days they wish to take, with the bare minimum being two days per week.
Structurally, the entire organization is headed by the Director named Reverent Nathan Biornstad, assisted by Reverent Steve Swartzell, the associate director and the director of youths' children ministries and families. The leadership of the church and the preschool is based on such core values as honesty, resilience, tolerance and integrity through constructive storytelling (St. Wilfrid). The nurturing of solid faith in the preschool kids and the entire community is integrated into small groups, children's ministries, adult formation, youth ministries, song school and ministry books.
