2 What is the general narrative and its setting, and why are the people participating in the experiment?
This painting depicts an experiment conducted on a bird in an air pump. The architectural setting of the background reveals that the experiment is conducted in a house. The people around observe the experiment to acquire knowledge but to be entertained, as well.
3 Explain the experiment.
The experiment needs an air pump with two edges and the scope is to see what happens on the upper part is we suck the air out. However, if the space is empty we cannot see any difference. Of course, the result is horrific, as the bird is asphyxiating.
