Introduction
Ethics is described as prescribed codes of conduct in a given area, society, or place. Various ethical principles control people’s actions and determine what is right and wrong. According to Rachels & Rachels (2018), anywhere, whether school, workplace, or hospital, there are rules and regulations which guide people, so the code of conduct might be different based on the scenarios or places, but people tend to abide by the set principles. Several theorists have come up with approaches explaining ethics and how they control people’s actions and consequences of such activities. This paper compares and contrasts two ethical theories namely, the utilitarianism theory and Kant’s theory. Utilitarianism theory bases its arguments on what is right and wrong on the consequences of a person’s action, but Kant’s theory argues that right or wrong can only depend on the fulfillment of actions relating to an individual’s duties.
