Objective
To verify the thermal energy of conservation and calculate the specific heat of copper.
Introduction
The thermal energy of a mass is calculated by the formula below.
Thermal energy J=Mass kg*specific heat (J/kg*°C) *temperature change.
In the conservation of energy, the thermal energy lost by a mass is the same as the thermal energy gained by the liquid. Therefore the statement justifies the formula below.
Mc*Cc*Tic-Tf=Mw*Cw*(Tf-Tiw)
Where Mc = mass of copper
Cc = specific heat of copper
Tic = initial temperature of the copper
Tf = final temperature
Mw = mass of water
Cw = specific heat of the water
Tiw = initial temperature of the water.
Procedure
The experiment was carried out in a computer simulation. The experiment was selected. Before running the experiment, 50g copper was selected into the beaker, and the temperature was set to 100 OC. The data was recorded. After that, 100g of water was selected into the calorimeter, and it was at 20 oC. The data was recorded, and the experiment was run after the "show graph view" was selected. The final temperature was noted and recorded. Finally, the calculation was carried out as per the laboratory manual.
