Images can refer to any pictures or visual representations that convey information through visual communication. To understand correctly the messages being passed, one has to employ skills of analysis on the images through six perspectives.
Personal Perspective
This refers to a situation whereby the viewer of the image acquires his or her opinion about the image based on personal thoughts. The viewer’s thoughts may be subject to cultural values or personal preference and it’s usually quite difficult to change one’s personal perspective.
Historical Perspective
This refers to a situation whereby analysis of the image and opinion making depends on how old the source of media is. One good example to historical perspective is the image editing techniques using Photoshop software that was not used in earlier times. This means that one cannot compare an image created with Photoshop with an image made and edited by craft. At times, image viewers may support their personal perspective by use of the historical perspective.
Technical Perspective
This refers to a situation whereby the use of technical tools such as lighting, media used, positioning and presentation of the image among others enhances the looks of the image to a level where it seems real.
