The world is, increasingly, become a global village courtesy of the numerous advances in social, economic and political ways of doing things. The prevailing state of affairs has resulted in an unprecedented increase in religious groupings over the last few decades. The result of this mushrooming situation is a diverse distribution of people holding divergent views on religion and worship as a general principle of life. It is common knowledge in this widely divided society that most of the peace threats are orchestrated by the fact that people feel different just because of their religious beliefs. Some religious communities have, therefore, launched lethal attacks on others from opposing groupings leading to massive bloodshed across various regions in the world. The primary concern of this essay is to advocate for religious tolerance among people in the modern society to foster world peace.[Boase, Roger, ed. Islam and global dialogue: Religious pluralism and the pursuit of peace. Ashgate Publishing, Ltd., 2013.] [Mac Ginty, Roger, and Oliver Richmond. "The fallacy of constructing hybrid political orders: a reappraisal of the hybrid turn in peacebuilding." International Peacekeeping 23, no. 2 (2016): 219-239.]
The fact that people can now move and communicate across the world with increased speed and convenience should propel the human race to take a second look at any issue that threatens that effectiveness. Religious oppression is one of those factors that pose an impediment to global integration. It is also important to note that the very development and progress of social, economic and political attributes of any single nation are tied to the state of global peace. That means that every country, and indeed every individual, has the imperative responsibility and role to play in bolstering world peace. A disruption in the state of stability affects both the religiously intolerant and their victims in equal measure. Any problematic co-existence in any society in the world jeopardizes the developmental prospects of the present and future generations in that setting. Practicing religious tolerance is, therefore, a task that needs concerted involvement by every member of the global society.[Reilly, Jacqueline, and Ulrike Niens. "Global citizenship as education for peacebuilding in a divided society: Structural and contextual constraints on the development of critical dialogic discourse in schools." Compare: A Journal of Comparative and International Education 44, no. 1 (2014): 53-76.]
In the wake of increased business activities, the modern society has witnessed collaborations among countries across all corners of the world regardless of their religious base. There are numerous examples of such business interaction among nations holding extremes in the spiritual realms, but the increasing intolerance is becoming a thorn in the flesh for nations involved. The United States, for instances, keeps very strong business partnerships and interactions with India. We understand that the United States advocates for freedom of religion but India is largely Buddhist. Even with such differences, the two nations have exhibited an admirable trade relationship until recently with the advent of extreme bouts of religious intolerance between various religious divisions. Another notable example is the relationship between the United States of America and the Latin nations such as Mexico. It is public knowledge that the Latin nations are majorly Catholics while most of the Americans are mainly Protestant Christians.
