Motion in One Dimension
Introduction
The main objective of the laboratory test was to generate data to plot a graph that would enhance an understanding of motion in one dimension. In specific, it was an exercise to investigate the correlation between position and time of an object traveling along a straight line. The experimental data was collected from a cart moving in one dimension and analyzed on the Capstone program.
Mathematically, velocity may be defined as the first derivative of position x or displacement with respect to time t (Kleppner and Kolenkow 14). Equation (1) depicts this relationship:

On the other hand, acceleration infers a changing velocity with respect to time, or the second derivative of displacement with respect to time. Equation (2) portray this kinematic relationship:

Experimental Question.
In conducting this laboratory exercise, the experimenter sought to establish the practical application of a position versus time graph.
Experimental Data
Table 1 below summarizes the relationship between position and time as established from the experiment. The results on the same are also extended in Table 2. In both cases, it was observed that the magnitude of the measured distance increased with an increase in time.
