source..OSMOSIS EGG LAB REPORT
The aim of this experiment was to give an in-depth understanding of the osmosis process under different experiment conditions in a large cell. The experiment sort to investigate how osmosis occur in an egg cell. The egg was placed into different solutions; corn syrup, water, and vinegar.
Osmosis occurs in a cell when two solutions of different concentration are separated by a semi-permeable membrane, through the membrane water molecules tend to move from the highly concentrated solution to lowly concentrated solution.
My hypothesis for the experiment was that mass and size of the egg increase when placed in vinegar, the size and mass of the egg decrease when placed in corn syrup, and the size and mass of the egg increase when immersed in water.
When the egg was immersed in the water, the water molecules moved into the egg. This is supported by the observation that the size and mass of the egg had increased. This shows that through osmosis the water molecules moved from the area of high concentration into the egg which had a lower concentration of water molecules
