Probability (X=x) = ncx px(1-p)n-x x=0,1,2,…,n
0, elsewhere
Solution
a) the expected value of a discrete random variable is the probability-weighted average of all possible values that can occur. The expected value of a binomial distribution is defined as E(X)=np where n is the number of trials carried out and p the probability of success in each trial.
P=0.3
1-p=0.7
n=6
E(X) =np
=6*0.3
=1.8
The expected value is 1.8 when the probability of obtaining a head in a toss =0.3 and the number of tosses being = 6, and hence the expected number of heads is rounded off to two.(2).
Probability that (x<2) = Probability (x=0) +Probability(x=1)
=6c0 ...
0, elsewhere
