Sound is an important aspect in every film. The basic categories of sounds in film include use of dialogue, music and sound effects. Dialogue is used to authenticate the speaker through the words they speak to another character. Sound effects in film are the sounds that are synchronized to match what is being viewed. Music usually encompasses the background music used to add rhythm and emotion to the film (Reay, 2004).
Sound has been used effectively throughout the film. In Thelma and Louise dialogue is used extensively between Thelma Dickinson and Louise Sawyer. Dialogue is also seen where these two main characters to other characters who they meet on their way. Dialogue is important in film as it is used in telling the story in the film, expressing motivations and feelings of the characters (Projansky, 2001). On the other hand, the background music in this film comprises of a rock n roll and country music. Sound effects in the film include the sound of the road or landscape and silence punctured by crash of dishes. Sound effects are used to bring realism to the film and create appropriate nuance.
