The films "On La Haine" and "High Noon" represent classical Hollywood dramas occurring as current genres. They feature stories that portray the norms, beliefs and culture of the society at the time of their production and release (filmsite.org np). In this view, new ideas and exemplary plots appear, with their emergence providing the foundation for overall occurrence. Further, the characters in the movies display several essential features of consideration, giving the viewer a visual representation of historic events and their relation to current times. The classical feature occurs in relation to their period of release. In this view, the film "On La Haine" became released in 1995, while "High Noon" became released in 1952.
Critical analysis
The film "On La Haine" entails a French production that goes back to the time of immigrants and native families. On this note, this film depicts the experiences faced by immigrants while in France in terms of the general standards of living. A key theme existing for the plot is discrimination, with the effects becoming clear. The families of the immigrants are not given their due respect in the society. Contrary, the immigrants are left unattended in terms of employment and other opportunities. There is a lot of discrimination and racial differences observed in the attitudes of the native French people towards the immigrants. The youth of the immigrants’ families are deprived of their rights and the frustration leads them to get involved in crimes.
Additionally, the youth population belonging to the immigrants is also involved in social problems of drugs and alcohol addiction. On this note, when these people are caught in some sort of crimes, they are treated extremely badly from the police. To add it all, these immigrants are treated worse than the natives who are involved in similar acts. The attitude of the French political parties is completely anti-immigrant and they do not provide them with the adequate respect to live the life with ease and comfort. The themes of depression come from the fact that the immigrants are treated badly at all aspects of life in France. The racial discrimination that is faced by the immigrants’ in France leads the immigrants in sentiments of depression and frustration. The frustrated attitude of the immigrants makes them lead to get involved in crimes and other illegal acts. Another theme that is observed in the film entails loneliness. For ‘High Noon’, the genre became utilized with an aim of providing information on an uncharacteristic social issue on civic responsibility. In view of the time of release, the concept of the movie’s plot develops during a period of political instability and oppression in the 1950s, in which the cases of political persecution and McCarthyism rose at a rapid rate (filmsite.org np). Additionally, several blacklisted artists at the time faced political persecutions from the HUAC under the leadership of McCarthy. The issue arose with the Communist Party, whose increased awareness provoked the prevailing administration. The victims of persecution showed firmness and strong ground for their principles since they followed their consciousness to the core.
In another view, the film arises as a metaphor of the United States foreign policy and Cold War during the period of war in Korea. The protagonist in the film occurs as an important element of consideration given his deep motive of rescuing a town in fear of antagonists (filmsite.org np). In this case, a gang of murderers is out to destroy the remaining hero of the town who exist among fearful residents.
