The documentary "India’s Daughter" is a created by Leslee Udwin basing the theme on a true story. The movie is about a female medical student in Delhi. She is twenty-three years and has a potential of saving her family. She is determined and hardworking. She has a male friend. One day they were together coming from the movies at night and were heading home. A private bus offered them a ride. In this bus, there were six men together with the bus attendants. No other passenger was present apart from this group of boys and the two friends. An argument ensues and one of the boys, later known to be a minor, starts a quarrel with the two couples. The quarrel becomes heated, and the other friends join in.
In the argument, the seventeen-year-old accuses the two of walking together at night, and they are not married. The couple then protests against this accusation. However, the gang goes ahead to beat the couple. Something that illicit the numerous objections against the film is the fact that the gang goes ahead to rape the woman. After raping the woman, the gang takes the belongings of the couple. Further, they go ahead to dump their bodies by the roadside. They are found and rushed to the hospital. The woman, however, dies because of injuries and dysfunction of vital organs.
In relating the film to the course ethnic relations, the documentary presents various aspects of ethnic issues and racism in the video. This film is objectively geared towards ensuring that women in India are empowered. It aims at showing the cases of injustice against women that is prone in India. Issues such as sexual harassment, ethnic and gender violence and gender are illustrated. For instance, the film starts humbly but goes on to illustrate the idea of Indian men having the obvious behavior of torturing women and raping them. This video illicit many contradictions in the public are majorly claiming that it portrays India in bad light concerning racial and gender issues. Moreover, the authorities have made advancements to ban the playing of this film even in YouTube and other platforms that air the movie.
Gender discrimination appears to be the most significant point in the film. Sex-selective abortions and sexual harassment are portrayed to be common in this community. The instance where the neighbors do not approve the parents’ plan to sell the land to pay her daughter fees illustrates that the women are not valued. That they do not to be educated, and it would be a waste of resources in selling the land to pay school fees for a woman. The parents, however, are treating this woman as equally as they would treat a man, and they go ahead to sell the land. In the course of the film, the men at the bus accuse the woman of walking with her male friend in the night while they are not married poses a question of gender issues. Clearly, in this culture it was not advisable to have a male and female walk together at night if they are not married. Consequently, this puts India on the spot on its cultural issues.
A feminist in India accuses the director of concentrating on portraying insignificant cases on rape. The issue of having the convict having space in the movie has also elicited equal amounts of disagreement. By having this movie concentrate much on female issues, it shows that women are not equally important as the men. Thus, this movie shows mistreatments to the women.
