Advance alcohol and other drugs counseling
The alcohol screening tool is very effective, complete and very confronting, although am not a very heavy drinker gave me that particular feeling. The response is based on the research on the impacts of alcohol and the warning labels on the attitudes and behavior on the health sector. There has been very little or no change in the drinking behavior and the related harms since the introductions of warning labels this is according to professor Stockwell (2005). I do not really think that the labels or screening are completely useless like the audit, they are good enough by stopping or creating awareness at least to one person. In my own case I scored very low alcohol consumption, I did expect that because I do not really feel the need to drink alcohol in order for me to have fun with my friends and family. Am usually satisfied with having only one glass of wine and if am the designated diver I will rather not drink at all CITATION Jud14 \l 1033 (Judith A. Lewis, 2014).
In the case about Frank, discussing about the motivational interviewing would be the first step that I would take because it is a goal oriented client that is centered approach. Being a counselor and handling the case of Frank I should be having very great listening skills so that I can be able to paraphrase back all the feelings and thoughts of the client. Building a good therapeutic relationship with Frank would be very important due to the previous information; the relationship should be based on empathy and understanding without any judgments. Through these I would start helping Frank to be able to find motivation and be able to attend his meeting without having to feel that they are just protocol that he is following, but it is a tool that is helping him to fight his addiction on substance abuse CITATION Mar11 \l 1033 (Mary Marden Velasquez, 2011).
Especially because he knows that substance abuse is the source of all his problems. By Frank attending all the NA meetings and still having complains about the meetings, I would like to know what really motivates him to keep on attending the meetings and what does he get from the meetings that he has attended?. Maybe he would like to attend a different group where he can find himself as part of the group because he feels that he does not see himself being a tattooed addict or a needle pusher like the other people he is attending the same meeting with. Frank should not be forced to attend those meetings because he will become resistance and to be able to support Frank I need to be on the same page as him CITATION Mar11 \l 1033 (Mary Marden Velasquez, 2011).
The responses that I got from students were really good because they understood more and also commented that it has contributed to the learning of other students. One comment on the posted stated that they had really learnt something from the post and they would like to know more about therapy, another student commented that the use of the person-centered approach was a good move when Frank was complaining about the NA meetings thus being able to challenge the ambivalence and discrepancies of Frank. Additional information was added by another student saying that a therapist should be able to reframe the resistance as being healthy and encourage Frank in a more positive way CITATION Jud14 \l 1033 (Judith A. Lewis, 2014).
The magistrate has referred Cam and in my experience I think that clients who have been enforced to attend sessions do not exactly want or willing to work on their issues, and actually they usually think that they do not have any issues. However in order to work with Cam without any problems it's good to firstly search his family support circle and also working in getting his community support network. By the use of cognitive behavioral therapy I will be able to help Cam to understand the impact that his alcohol addiction has caused on him and his family. This part will make him be able to know what extent his actions has done to his family and also the community due to the drinking habit that he has taken on CITATION Mar09 \l 1033 (Gifford, 2009).
I would explore the feelings and the triggers that he has and work on them, I will help Cam find new activities to do so that he can adapt something new to his life instead of going everyday in the afternoon to drink. Many alcoholics ingest more fluid than the average person therefore the first step is replacing the alcoholic drink, coffee seems to be the best drink of choice for many alcoholics who are recovering others gravitate towards the non-alcoholic beers and wines the assumption being that those drinks can satisfy their cravings without being having to undergo full blown relapses. Being in an environment that is alcoholic free will be the start of recovering for someone like Cam this is one of the few ways that Cam will be able to recover from being an alcoholic CITATION Mar09 \l 1033 (Gifford, 2009).
