Reflective Journal on Adolescent Psychology
Adolescence
Adolescence is a transitional stage of physical and psychological development. It starts from the puberty stage and ends in the mid-20s. Over this course, I have learned about the many changes that occur between the age of 12 to 24, including biological, emotional, psychological, and cognitive development. When it comes to relationships, I’ve learned of a lot of changes during this phase. Romantic and peer relationships become more central in this period. In adolescence, rapid development is experienced during this time and within a short period. Adolescence comes with a lot of gain in body weight, abilities to reproduce, and an astonishing brain transformation. Adolescents begin to learn more about responsibilities vested in adults and relationships in adulthood.
The changes in appearance that occur in puberty mark the beginning of adolescence. For both girls and boys, the changes include the growth of underarm and pubic hair, changes in the skin, and growth in height. Boys will experience the growth of facial hairs and voice deepening. The girls will start menstruating and develop breasts. Excluding the changes experienced during infancy, changes experienced by children during adolescence are way greater than any other changes in a person’s lifetime.
