Reasons of Immigration
Immigration refers to the action of settling permanently in a foreign country. There are arrays of reasons for immigrants to abandon their mother countries for foreign countries. Some of these reasons include economic dynamics, social-economic concerns, environmental issues and safety reasons among others. Therefore, this paper examines in detail the root causes of immigration to ideally uncover the pertinent question of the increased global immigration.
Frequent conflicts and war outbreaks push individuals out of their country of origin to seek safety and become immigrants elsewhere. Also, discriminations based on one’s gender, religion, race, culture and ethnicity lowers the quality of human life. Such oppressions, therefore, compel individuals to flee their home countries to settle in safer foreign regions (Freeman, 2017). Thus, people fleeing war zones, government harassment and violation of human rights become refugee immigrants appealing for global protection and safer settlement areas.
Immigrants also leave their countries of origin due to socio-economic factors such as unemployment, poor social amenities, family reunification and low wages (Carling et al., 2018). Economic immigrants settle in foreign countries primarily for jobs and better earnings. Host countries are believed to have superior wages and a wide array of job opportunities. Thus, immigration provides a better start of life and more opportunities to socio-economic immigrants than they had before in their mother countries.
Also, environmental factors such as adverse climate changes and natural disasters unreasonably affect both penurious and fortune families forcing them to migrate to safer places for settlement. Some regions in various countries also experience frequent floods, earthquakes and hurricanes, making it impossible for human settlement (Klepp, 2017). Therefore, the people living in such life threatening areas are obligated to move to other countries fleeing nature adversities.
