Technology Equity and Access (Other (Not Listed) Sample)
One of the most important issues we face is that of "technology equity and access," especially for second-language, culturally diverse, and physically challenged students. Select from two of these underrepresented groups, and describe five strategies (for each group) that you would recommend to a school to help assure equal access to technology for members of those groups. Explain how each strategy would help.
The two underrepresented groups that I will focus on in the question are the culturally diverse and physically challenged students. The United States is a diverse country that house people of different races, ethnicity and origin with different cultures. In addition, there ar physically challenged students who can neither cope with access to technology nor receive equity. Equitable access to technology is something worth fighting for, as technology is able to empower students and enhance their learning (Levy). Due to the digital era, schools across the United States and across the globe are expecting students to have digital access to be able to complete their coursework. There is a need to develop a systematic technology plan for culturally diverse students.
The students have to learn English and adapt to the way of living in the United States. However, the school should adopt a system-wide technology that can cater to all students equally without discriminating against their cultures. This is built on strict policies that address what is required in providing equitable access to technology for students. The same applies to all the students with physical disabilities or handicaps (Levy). The policies should come up with a way of helping the physically challenged students in getting access to technology, how to access technology and be able to accommodate diverse instructional requirements.
The second strategy is getting teachers involved. Teachers play a significant role between school leadership and students (Levy). Teachers interact on a daily basis with students and are able to know their needs and capabilities. The school leaders work together with teachers in implementing programs that will promote equitable access to technology for their students (Levy). Get teachers involved with help in developing policies and programs that ensure technology equity and access among culturally diverse and physically challenged students. The third essential strategy is coming up with a digital literacy program that will help in educating and creating awareness of digital tools. Although students are considered to be wel vast in knowledge of the technological world, not many of them have an understanding of how to use digital tools (Levy). Cultural diverse students and the physically challenged students should be enrolled in digital literacy programs that will allow the students to catch up on their technological skills.
