Summary: Political Corruption
The very basic understanding of political corruption is that it is the use of power by individuals in authority with the aim of illegitimate gains. The practices that constitute political corruption are bribing, embezzlement of public funds, nepotism, and extortion among others. The research paper focuses on the various aspects of corruption within a broad point of consideration of political involvement and its impacts on the global economics. As indicated by the Transparency International organization, political corruption is the major issue in the contemporary world. However, it serves to spoil good governance while contributing to poor allocation of resources and compromises development in both private and public sectors.
Within the authoritarian countries, political corruption is a typical condition. It is a practice that is wanted and applied as well as deliberated among the political class because they always want to enrich themselves. One can then relate various aspects of corruption with the theory of extractive corruption. According to this theory, there is outlined a state-society relationship, where the state is the stronger party. The understanding of this concept is that the corrupt state agents are the big beneficiaries of the system, and with the ruling elite they use the state apparatus to enrich themselves with societal based resources. This theory is certainly applied in a flexible neo-patrimonial system, which is commonly found in Latin America, Africa...
