..and so today we are going to talk about, today I talk about the money, at least when somebody hears about it ,they will double it twice this year, this sunday and next sunday. am really actually glad. am looking forward to sharing this message. It going to be good for us. families talk about important things we are family, and we talk about this stuff. we deal with it, we are opening the line of communication. i really do believe that i should be teaching about money more often, did you know Jesus spoke more about money than anything else in the bible except the forgiveness of sins. forgiveness of sins was first, money was second. five hundred mentioning’s about how you spend your money in the bible, the bible is full of instructions, teachings, encouragement, comfort, warnings and rebuke about how you spend your money. god wants us to talk about that and to think about hat and so am glad to hear and talk about it here today. i want to say first of all, it will be great, it would it not be amazing, would it not be awesome if we did not need any money to run the church, we going to offer free. Will it not be great, will it not be easy[]all the ministry we need, teaching, preaching, comfort, service, missionaries, youth workers, women ministries, men’s ministries, if we can do all that, evangelism we can offer for free, would it not be great if somebody else paid really, it would be a big lottery and the money would just come out of that lottery account and it would just meet every need because ,who needs it more than the church, is there anybody who needs it more. would it not be that great if gods people did not depend on god to provides through them for the work at the church, []I think about it because many of my friends live in former communists countries, and you know, in the communists countries church is not illegal in the Czech republic or it was formerly the czech slovakia, republic of Czech Slovakia, but in their country, it is all paid for by the state and the tax provide maybe and several other western european countries, the pastors salary and then they have what they call second pastor, the state pays for the second pastor, but if the church want the youth pastor ,the women ministry or somebody else, somebody else is involved in their ministry in ministry church administration, you know how hard it is to raise that kind of money so I asked my friends working and serving in those former communist countries why cannot you get a youth pastor. they said, wow! people are not used to giving, that is not part of the practice we just rely on the state and the state has chosen this is what every month you are paid. So, that is what pastors in those countries are paid $500 every month and that covers an aid , they have an offering but very small. well , as we explore what the bible says about how god provides for money and how the church works, and how the living church works , am glad to report something to you, god does not want any of your money, god does not want a single cent of what is your money, what he does however want, is all that belongs to him, and god has written very Cleary, that he is the provider of all the money that he has. choosing his prominence to give you more than what you need and to see if you give back to him, he could have withhold it and put it in a separate account and you could have spent everything that you get or he has chosen to give you far more than what you need, more than many people all over the world have ever received. and then puts you into a test therefore, actually he puts himself into a test to see if you would trust him to pour out everything that he needs. So, when you open up the book of haggai chapter 2 and if you read the scripture, look at the values [] let your bibles flap up and open up in the book of Hebrew, haggai [inaudible 00:00:00]all year, it’s a book maybe that you have not seen maybe for quite some few years actually haggai it is, the third to the end of the book you right from malachi, zephaniah, and then you will find haggai, way in the back and in this passage you will find a great description of the four ingredients that god that god provides to make his church work, we are talking bases, the ways and the means, the money and the mission of living church. Today am going to talk about the means, what are means, the ways’ that god uses, what are the ingredients that god uses to make this church work, and I begin with, which is easy to remember. Number one , the first one is that he provides his presence, if you do have gods presences then you do have a church, number two is, he provides power, I believe it is the power of the holy spirit which you have experienced and seen and if you do not have the holy spirit power you really do not have a church you do not have a living church, number three, he provides provisions, he gives his gifts to his people and he want to see if they give it back to his work. And then four, he provides peace, where the spirit of the lord is there is peace, and if the church is leaning on this provision god, provision of peace, it becomes a living church, an active church, a growing church. Lets open our bibles on haggai chapter two, actually am going to ask you, you are not going to see it on the screen but I am going to read a portion of haggai chapter one, just listen to it as I read from haggai chapter one and we are on our way to haggai chapter two, in jesus name please remain sited as I do. In the second year of delius the king, and the first day of the sixth month the word of the lord came by prophet of the lord haggai to zerubbabel the son of sheltie , governor of Judah and Joshua the son of jehozadak the high priest saying, thus says the lord of hosts, this people says the time has not come, even the time for the house of the lord to be rebuild, then the word of the lord came by haggai, the prophet saying, is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your pent houses while this house lies desperate, now therefore says the lord of hosts, considered your ways, you have sown much but harvest little, you eat but, there is not enough to be satisfied you drink but there is not enough to become drunk ,you put on clothes but none is warm enough, and he who earns, earns wages to put into a pulse with holes that says the lord of hosts consider your ways, go into the mountain and bring wads and rebuild me the temple that I may be pleased with and be glorified, you look for much but behold it comes a little, when you bring it home, I blow it away. Why? declares the lord of hosts, because of my house which lies desolate, but each one of you runs to his own house when[inaudible 00:00:00] and apply them to us as we explore what your word says about your provisions, in jesus name we pray, amen. I want you to paint your picture of what is happening, 538 bc Jerusalem, Israel ,ok, was empty of the jewish people there was a mortgage melt down in 606, there had never been such a mortgage melt down as that, in 606 bc , syria defeated Israel and they said to the jewish people you may not live in your houses any longer , you may not run you businesses here, you have to leave ,get out and so , would there ever be much a decrease in home value as when another government, another foreign enemy said you cannot live here, get out of here, what would happen to the camarillo land values, at that point the home values. If someone said you cannot live in camarillo anymore we are going to live there you get out, that means you are not going to have any money for your business, no money for your houses and people of Israel for 70 years were exiled out of Israel. ok , for 70 years they were gone, 70 years of poverty, hardship and why did it happen? god said, I caused it to happen, god said, I wanted to discipline you because you live for yourselves, you are rich, you are happy, you think everything is going great , you do not follow me, you do not need me, so, I am going to kick you out of Judah for 70 years, and it was 70 years of exile, for the people of Israel. Now 538 bc, the king of Babylon, his name was, we call him delius, they would pronounce it de-li-u-s., he became the power, he conquered the power and wanted jewish to move back to Jerusalem. You are free now to go, so 538 the people of Jerusalem came back, very most likely including haggai the prophet, probably in his seventies probably lived in Jerusalem as a young man. it was like, heard the stories from his relatives ,and his father, and his parents and his uncles one day will go back to Jerusalem and sure enough in 538 after delius acclamation that the lands were open for the Israelites to move back their homes. and right away, they came home. they started re- building the temple under the ministries of ezra and habakuk, Nehemiah. they came back and started to rebuild the temple and their own houses , they had to put their places back together, their farms back together. but then in 538 ,537bc,536 , there was a great famine and the farms were not doing so great. their businesses were not doing so well and so they devoted all their money to their own houses. not to the temple of god, and so the foundation was set up. but the foundation was set idle, and, so, that temple become a laughing stock. I think the people got discouraged, they knew what solomons temple once had looked like, the gold plated temple. it was the beautiful, wonder of the world and they started building back their little one, would not back look like a temple they had before. it did not look like they wanted and they got discouraged. they quitted giving and for sixteen years, there was no work done on that temple.
