Introduction
Oil and gas industry heavily relies on the rotating equipment in ensuring that their activities run smoothly. In essence, compressors and gas turbines are the key equipment that rotates in this industry. Nevertheless, these equipment poses inimitable challenges to the firm in regard to their maintenance. In fact, Rostagno (2013) and Bloch and Geitner (2012) argue, this equipment set the tempo of maintenance and represent at least 70% of the OPEX cost. Further, the industry has been faced with more demanding practices of going green and additional regulations as well as technical encounters that escalate the total operational cost of this industry. As such, producers can optimize their firms by integrating those approaches that optimize their practices and maintenance of their equipment. Therefore, it is imperative that maintenance of this equipment is optimized to ensure that fewer costs are incurred while running them. In response to this alarming need, oil and gas firms have focused on purchasing reliable and manageable equipment that will reduce their cost on maintenance. Among the common rotating equipment utilized in oil and gas industry, the centrifugal pump is one of them. Centrifugal pump is a key device used to amplify the power of the pumping devices (Zhou et al. 2003; Korankiatis et al. 2016). Consequently, understanding the operation of this pump and ways of maintaining it is paramount in saving the operational cost for the oil and gas plants. Therefore, this research study focuses on ways of optimizing maintenance of this machine.
Objectives
The primary goal of this research is to assess ways of optimizing the maintenance of rotating equipment, precisely the centrifugal pump in oil and gas plants. In quest of fulfilling this objective, the study will attain other objectives emanating from this primary objective.
