There is a necessity to implement ethical codes when conducting experiments. The law and ethics are two different aspects although some of the concepts applied in both overlaps. The social norms and ethics demand that research promotes the use of ethical code (Myers & Venable, 2014). However, there are violations of the guidelines of ethical code when people engage in research using human beings. For instance, in an experiment, it shows that people obeyed authoritative figures even when ordered to do bad things. In this way, it is evident that awareness about the significance of ethics over the law. In obeying authorities portrayed in the Stanley Milgram experiment, it is apparent that researchers violate the ethical code of respecting human life. In this way, the experiments result in harming innocent people and turning good individuals into bad people.
The advantage of employing ethical codes in research is that human life and would be respected and preserved. In this way, the ethical norms promote the goals of the study in question especially, truth, avoiding errors and knowledge (Myers & Venable, 2014). The use of the ethical code in research further helps in the promotion essential to conducting collaborative work. In this way, the public can hold the researchers accountable for their actions.
