Healthy family engagement can improve a student’s learning, well-being, and development. Feedback from family engagement allows teachers to gauge students’ development and learning milestones. Effective family engagement enhances student development and achievement by providing direction and guidance in decision-making and opportunities to address potential problems.
Collaboration between the teacher and student families improves and promotes students’ attitudes, well-being, and academic attainment. A healthy family relationship supports a student's behavioral development and learning progress (Garbacz et al. 5). Teachers who advocate for healthy family engagements find it easy to identify and address problems that affect student development and academic progress. Teachers need to encourage students and their parents to build genuine, strong, and collaborative relationships.
Communication with students and their families is essential. A two-way communication process allows teachers to receive and give feedback on a student’s development and learning progress. One of my strengths is the ability to easily form interpersonal relationships. I believe that this ability enhances my capacity to communicate and interact with students and their families at a more engaging level (Ishimaru 364). However, I still need to develop the skills to advocate for and guide students and parents to create healthy relationships. Healthy relationships can enhance collaboration at home and create a conducive environment for behavioral development and learning.
A relationship-building course can enhance my ability to develop my advocacy skills. Simple courses are available online and may only require my attention after working hours or during rest days.
