Introduction
Alka-seltzer is an over-the-counter medicine used as an antiacid and to relieve pain. It was developed by the renowned chemist Maurice Treneer and launched in 1931. It constitutes three active ingredients of sodium bicarbonate, aspirin, and anhydrous citric acid, each providing a specific cure and relief to the consumer. Aspirin reduces inflammation and pain, while sodium bicarbonate is an antiacid. Anhydrous citric acid forms effervescence when mixed with water. The brand is currently owned and distributed by Bayer AG pharmaceutical company with a global market outreach. It has two major categories; Alka-seltzer original for relieving heartburn and pain and Alka-Seltzer for curing a cold and flu. The Alka-Seltzer original has products, namely; relief chews, Gummies, Effervescence, and Gum.
