A role model is what a business mind needs to keep on his pursuit of innovation and success in business. Not only should a typical role model and desired business be adored from its public success but also from the platform of its organizational structure as organizational structure counts when account for how successful a business can become. Netflix started out as an SME in 1997 and as it diversified its expertise as years passed by, it has seen more than just success. Netflix has over 36 million subscribers who watch approximately 4 billion hours of programs on every section on more than 1,000 devices. To account for this demand, the company uses dedicated video servers dispersed all over the world. When a subscriber clicks on a movie to watch it online, Netflix determines in a nick of time which of the servers encompassing that movie is closest to the subscriber, then picks from a number of video file versions, depending on the device of the subscriber.
Whereas Netflix started out as a DVD-by-mail payment service, it’s now on its scales to become something far beyond the ordinary; that is an entertainment power parallel to HBO Company, if not HBO’s parent company, a shot at Time Warner (TWX). Netflix is planning to lead the swing on bringing television-style programming over the World Wide Web and has developed state-of-the-art technology to provision that change. Netflix has invested a handful of hundreds of millions of dollars in original series-House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, Arrested Development, Orange Is the New Black, a Ricky Gervais show known as Derek, and Turbo: F.A.S.T., a kid’s television programme in co-production with DreamWorks Animation (DWA)—to be a major player in Hollywood. "We think of the technology as a vehicle for creating a better, more modern experience for the content we have," says Chief Executive Officer Reed Hastings. A competitive business ready to take the future by storm, be it in investments or adaptation of technology and fearless of the risks into it is what other businesses should learn from the strides Netflix is making.
A functional structure is an organizational structure that is best developed by Netflix .Netflix gulfs their company into seven essential functions; Marketing, Product, Talent, Content, Finance General Counsel and Secretary, and Service and DVD Operations. This sort of assembly permits for functions to run professionally individually in lieu of the entire organization as a whole. Similar to every organizational structure, as most aspects in general, a well-functioning assembly has a surfeit of pros and cons that have erratic levels of significance depending on the specific organization and the main business they are in.
Reed Hastings plays a fundamental role in making sure that his company does not fall behind the race in being competitive especially in this day and age where technology is taken up so fast to be an armor that would bring down other competitors. For Reeds, being a C.E.O means to be able to divine the next big thing over and over. He lets his team come up with new innovations, new initiatives, and new products. Netflix has redefined a system where they study the consumer habits and deliver to the demands of their customers through the algorithm where a subscribed user can pick from a collection of videos recommended by Netflix team.
Looking at the relationship between online content provider Netflix and Amazon, Amazon.com has Amazon Instant Video whereas Netflix has its video streaming service. These products are two of the most prevalent contending video streaming selections available. Furthermore, the two services run on Amazon's cloud computing platform. Although Netflix and Amazon are entrants, they are at the same time business partners. In a conference for Amazon’s cloud computing division, Amazon featured Reed Hastings during the crucial address to debate the extent of which he loves using Amazon’s cloud to run Netflix.
In the contemporary world, if corporations need enormous technology resources, they have two options: have theirs in-house, or rather then outsou...
