Digital journalism is a popular profession in our society, a trade without which people would live in darkness. Over last decade, the media has advanced in innumerable ways which have caused significant changes in methods journalist report news. According to Franklin (2014), the media advancements have seen traditional journalists doing their best to a more advanced role using social media platforms as a means of promoting and delivering their work. Scholars have ledsome studies on how the advancement of digital media has affected the journalism profession from different perspectives within the journalism industry. However, there has been little effort to conduct detailed research into journalism in the digital era and its impacts on journalist and other digital media users.
This review investigates the effects of digital media on modern journalism and how the changes have affected how journalists perform their work. Interviews with journalists and the public will also show how the people feel about the advanced audience interaction and the introduction of citizen journalism. The research also highlights journalists view on whether digital media has altered writing or advanced it.

Research question: How has the rise of digital media necessitated journalist’s adjustment of their roles? How have various social media platforms transformed the manner in which modern journalists collect and present information? How has the relationship between the audience and journalists been affected by the introduction of social media?
The Role of Journalism in the Society
We cannot overlook the significance of news cannot in modern societies. However, most people differ when it comes to the issue of defining news. Reports can get interpreted as information that most individuals have been in contact with at some point in their lives or knowledge that has vital importance to other individuals. Traditionally, gestures and language have been the dominant methods used by ancestors transfer information from one individual to another. Language and gestures are still the most common modes of communication (Nielsen, 2015). However, the formats in which information gets passed from one person to another have developed significantly over the last few decades. As the digital age continues to improve, it is evident that the information and news formats will undergo significant developments in the next few years.
