Inter-professional Activity
Inter-professional activity is a concept that brings diverse professionals from different disciplines to work together towards a common objective. The exercise entails bringing diverse professions on an activity or task (Nelson et al., 2019). For this inter-professional research paper, the activity will involve assessing and designing a fitting nutrition program for physically challenged youths in their learning environment (school) and at home. As adolescents, the youth’s needs an increased amount of iron, calcium, protein, and energy. The nutritionists and dietitians primary role will be to advise them and design a nutrition program on the best foods to include in their diet to achieve a healthy living. In each and every home and learning institution, they will talk with the parents and responsible instructors on the best nutritional program for the physically disadvantaged aged 18 and below. A total of 30 students comprising of 10 PTA students, ten nutritionists, and ten dieticians will take part in the activity.
Learning Objective
The learning objective is to assess the youth’s unique nutritional needs, design a nutritional program and advise them on the best food choices and good nutrition .The activity will aim at improving the diet and nutrition needs of the physically disadvantaged aged 18 and below in their learning institutions and homes.
Step-by-Step Description of Activity
The research populations will entail ten fourth year PTA students, ten fourth year Dietician and 10, year 4 Nutritionist students. Various tools will be piloted to allow for any data that could be lost due to the use of a large data sample. The length of the study is earmarked as four weeks, an excellent opportunity that would allow for equal engagement of all the participants.
The students will be identified and grouped into six main groups of overlapping participants (student). At the start of the session, the students will be organized in clusters for introductory purposes and familiarization. The session will last for two days. The session will also be used to introduce the participants to the learning activities and engage them in the primary aspect and goal of the research study. They will be provided with data of the youth and other prearranged details of the school and home in the next seven days.
Through the research days, the participants will pay a visit to the identified youths and carry out a formative evaluation and assessment session. Each group in their various visits will provide a presentation to others, then feedback from the group. The presentation and feedback will be carried out in all the groups.
All through the next 19 days, they will pay visits to schools and homes to assess and evaluate the physically impaired youth on their unique nutritional needs. They will then advice and design a unique nutrition program according to each of the identified youth’s needs. Each group would then prepare a summary of their observation, evaluation, and assessment.
They would then take part in a research focus set with each completing filling a "before and after" outlook questionnaire. The questionnaire will comprise of evaluation session and introductory hearing. In the focus groups, data will be collected that consist of their learning outcomes and experiences. Multiple tools will be used to validate data; they will include transcription audio tape and 10-item questionnaire.
At the end of the 19 days through which the students collected, analyzed, assessed, and evaluated details from the disabled youth, an independent skilled qualitative researcher will then analyze the data and transcript of the students and their cumulative summations (for each group).
Assessment
The students will use two forms of assessment; observation and interviewing the parents and teachers of the youths under assessment. From the assessment and observation, the team will design a nutrition program in accordance to the youth’s unique needs
