Self-Reflexive Essay: Research Methods
Qualitative research is one of the essential methods which relies on first-hand data obtained by the researcher through questionnaires, observation, interviews, and focus groups, among others. Qualitative research facilitates and enables gaining insight into the thoughts and feelings of the people, which helps in providing the study basis. Success in research requires excellent and complex planning as it unveils the concept of a particular topic. Without success in qualitative research, the survival rate becomes very low, and it becomes hard to have a good result without appropriate planning. Typically, food is the crucial thing needed to enable its functionalities. Qualitative research is most suitable for studying nutrition to ensure there is efficient and effective learning result. Based on various qualitative research methods, there are unique problems associated with applying such methods. I will analyze, reflect, and critique the multiple concepts based on qualitative research in the essay. Therefore, qualitative research methods enable understanding of various concepts and facilitate interpreting diverse perspectives demonstrated in the study.
In many studies, various activities and practices ensure that results are complexly achieved. For example, in sciences, different research methods are applied to help generate the result. I have realized that qualitative research is an approach that allows one to examine people’s experiences in detail through particular research methods set such as observation, content analysis, biographies, life histories, group discussion, and in-depth interviews. It helps identify a specific aspect and concept from a particular perspective based on the study participants (Berger, 2015). Qualitative research methods enable understanding of various concepts and facilitate the interpretation of diverse perspectives demonstrated in the study. For example, different qualitative research is used in dietetics and nutrition research (Pillow, 2003). I have realized that qualitative research helps answer most nutrition complex questions about food relations. It investigates the reaction of various individuals based on the consumption of a particular food.
In the course and readings materials, I have realized that the “QUALITATIVE RESEARCH” field is increasingly becoming and gaining momentum, becoming the essential aspect in developing health policies. Qualitative research is most appropriate for studying nutrition to ensure there is efficient and effective learning result (Swift & Tischler, 2010). It helps understand the study participants’ behavior, opinions, emotions, and perspectives. In addition, it enables understanding the behaviors and views of people to come up with a complex strategy for decision making (Qualitative Research Methods Week 1 & 2). It also helps in interpreting the findings of various quantitative research. However, even though there has been a revolution within some disciplines, nutrition health research and dietetics quantitative approaches dominate most research.
Having analyzed the need and functionalities of various research methods, I have realized that the central argument is based on the participants and the group focus. As a result, based on the methodological question to help develop certain complex research, it is based on the participants (Berger, 2015). However, what determines the outcome of the result is the utterance of participants within a particularly focused group. Since my learning involves various research methods, they have greatly helped me understand the conceptual analyses of different research concepts (Swift & Tischler, 2010). Since food is one of the complex entities, qualitative research methods help develop a strategy to identify and realize different types of food and their constituent in nutrients.
Even though the qualitative research method is an essential aspect of facilitating the development and creation of complex results, it has various limitations that do not guarantee it effectively applies in the research. Based on various qualitative research methods, there are unique problems associated with applying such methods. It is a tremendous time-wasting process since it involves various stages which require excellent timing for an efficient result. Since it involves most of the concept analyzes individually, it limits the interpretation strategy making it hard to get into the main issue as indicated in the research question (Hydén & Bülow, 2003). In addition, it is difficult to verify the qualitative research methods since the participants are involved in an open-ended, and they usually have more control of
