Homeostasis Process (Research Paper Sample)

Instructions:

Topic: Homeostasis Instructions he maintenance of homeostasis is of major importance to all organ systems in the body and the overall survival of the individual. Explain how homeostasis is the maintenance of a dynamic range of environmental qualities rather than holding the internal environment at a set point. What would be wrong with a set point (say for body temperature) rather than a working range of temperatures? The endocrine system is closely tied to homeostasis functioning. Give two examples of hormones (including their glands of origin and action) that play major roles in homeostatic processes in the body. What happens if these hormones are disrupted in their actions? Also, look at how we adapt to survival in the outside world. Discuss how maintaining homeostasis gives us greater freedom of activity from dependence upon changes in the external environment. What happens during extremes that force our bodies out of homeostatic bounds? Give specific examples. Why is the maintenance of homeostasis especially important during development of new humans within the bodies of their mothers? What can go wrong if specific homeostatic functions are disrupted? Assignment 2 Grading Criteria Maximum Points Quality of initial posting: Initial posting should reveal a solid understanding of all aspects of the task; use factual and relevant information; and demonstrate full development of concepts. 100 Connections and higher order thinking: Multiple connections should be demonstrated showing a clear understanding of the material with clear and correct examples. 50 Reference to supporting readings: Refer to and properly cite (i.e., APA) either course and/or outside readings. 50 Language and Grammar: There should be no spelling, structure, or grammatical errors in any posting. Writing should be clear and organized. 50 Total: 250

Homeostasis process
There is no complicated case as to how the body manages to maintain it functionalism; this involves maintain the body temperatures, sugar levels (blood sugar content), and calcium content. All these components should always be kept or maintained at some levels that will be conducive to the body to operate; this process is usually called homeostasis. Homeostasis can be professionally be termed to be a metabolic that looks to maintain the equilibrium of the body functionalism by use of several complex biological mechanism that is governed by the central nervous system. This is to say that homeostasis is incorporated by the central nervous system that signals the mind to send stimulus to organs to respond to the change that the body has been subjected to.
The homeostasis process in one body
When one is subjected to a foreign environment (an environment that is considered to be different from the normal that he or she was in), the body is stimulated through the central nervous system that triggers the body to produce hormones such as the adrenalin that will be responsible to mobile the conflict between the physical environment and outer environment. This implies that the mobilization can involve physiological reactions. The attendance of the emotion or physical efforts will make the heartbeats to be a little faster than usual; this will in turn increase the respiration rates making an implication of shortness in breathing, cold sweat, and trembling legs. These physiological adjustments reflects the efforts of the body to uphold its internal equilibrium. Therefore, the actions that follows will be voluntary. For instance one can react by tacking water when he or she is thirsty, and sometimes eat when he or she feel hungry.
However, it is important to mention that the internal equipoise of the body is the ultimate measure of it functionalism. This involves maintaining a constant concentration of blood ions and molecules that are usually essential for one’s life by maintaining the some physical restrictions such as the temperature, blood sugar content, and calcium content. This does takes place irrespective of one’s ability to modify his immediate environment.
This extra ordinary property exhibited by the one’s body have impressed many physiologists. For instance, in 1965, Claude Bernard suggested that the equilibrium of a body is an essential component that makes or dictates when an orgasm can die or not. It the body the regulate what it feels like it is the best for it at the specific time. This concept was later been credited in 1932 by Walter cannon to be the wisdom of the body; therefore, he found it was of no good to coin the word, hence, the name homeostasis was accepted for the process.
The role of lymphatic system in homeostasis
A part from the blood vessels, the body do consist of the lymphatic vessels. These vessels are ever responsible for carrying lymph fluid from the lymph organs. The vessels can be divided to primary and the secondary lymphatic vessels; the primary vessels are known to be the thymus gland and the red bone marrows. The primary vessels are ever responsible for production of the red blood cells and the lymphocytes. This implies that the spleen that is ever responsible for pathogens removal builds up the homeostasis process.
Despite the lymphatic organism being made of less strong muscles, the lymph vessels are made to comprise valve that will ensure that the lymph fluids flow towards a given direction and not flowing back. This ensure a circular circulation of the system that assist in purifying the blood. This implies that lymphatic systems are closely attached to the respiratory movements since lymph systems are part and parcel of the blood.]
It has been found that the main function of the lymphatic systems is to maintain or regulate the fluid balance. This implies that the body can be prevented from other foreign pathogens since lymphocytes build part of the white blood cells that do protect the body. This is closely attached to the other function of the lymphocytes of removing fats from the intestines to the blood. This ease the fluid flow in one’s body hence homeostasis can take place with ease. The homeostasis can summarised with the following graph

The endocrine regulations of calcium during pregnancy
The key aspect of maternal physiological adjustment with respect to calcium is the increasing PTH discharges; this is much evident when it comes to marinating the serum ionic calcium ranks. This can also play part in the urinal secretion where the urine amount is likely to increase. When the secretion is not increased, then the high calcium level can be transferred to the foetus. In general, PHT do promote renal synthesis of 125-(OH) 2D3 which do act as an convertor that ensures the right calcium level are maintained during gestation. This process do take place irrespective of the calcitonin discharges, therefore, the process can be termed to be very important in maintaining the/protecting the maternal skeleton. The primary brand of the calcium metabolism is mainly active through the placental transport of calcium ions from the expectant mother to the foetus. If it happen that the rates of calcium transport is high, this it follows that the foetus can be relatively become hypercalcermic owing to the little if no hormones transfer across the placenta. The high calcium content can be supressed by PTH activities which may modify the foetus environment leading to secretions that will be automatically be discharged to the mother blood system that will later be passed out in form of a urine.
In some cases where there is failure in the balancing, the expectant mother can show sign by developing legs cramps which can be evident by swelling of the legs. Many do think that this is a normal scenario, which expectant mothers do exhibit. A keen clinical view of the matter address the same to be an early signs of hyperparathyroidism. The physiologists suggests that if the same conditions is exhibited over a long period, then it is likely to be chronic hyperparathyroidism.
The endocrine systems and homeostasis
Firstly, it crucial to define the endocrine systems, endocrine system is said to be the set of dustless glands that assist in the biological processes of the physique by manufacturing and rele...
