Public Opinion: Same sex marriage
The chosen topic for this research is same-sex marriage. The main reason I have decided to research this topic is because it has been controversial, based on people’s different views on the subject. Researching on this topic would provide an overview of the heated debate over gay marriage. The research would also examine religious group’s views and the public opinion on the issue. With many countries around the world legalizing gay marriages, researching on this topic would help in understanding what the Americans thinks of it.
Same-sex marriage relates to the chapter selected for this research, public opinion, since gay marriage is a controversial topic, and the government has to hear the opinion of the public before legalizing it. Given that America is a democratic country, the government cannot make decisions on contentious topics without considering what Americans think of it. For instance, legalizing gay marriages without consulting religious groups would not go well with the groups. Religious people think that gay marriages should never be legalized (Brewer, 12). Conversely, some people, especially the young generation, think that gay marriage should be legalized and that gay people should be given their rights.
