The Bermuda triangle is a section that is held with many myths and is located in a section of the Atlantic Ocean. The triangle is roughly bounded by the Puerto Rico, Bermuda and Miami. Within this triangle, there has a series of disappearances where airplanes and ships have disappeared to without any trace of the vessels or any of the survivors. To date, these disappearances have been unexplained and neither has anyone been in a position to figure out how these accidents happened. Planes and boats have vanished within the triangle even in very favorable weather and in instances where there was no panic messages sent from the vanished vessels. Amidst all these disappearances and explanations that are raised, the case of Bermuda Triangle remains a case of how people can give natural events a colorful hue, turn it to a full-grown hoax that still demonstrates a lack of creativity and devotion of easy to fleece audience, yet there are no proven mystical forces that stands out to account for the tragedy losses.
The legends that surround the Bermuda Triangle came into existence in early 1945 when a clue of five Navy Avenger Airplanes, who were on a training mission, disappeared without a trace. This incident brought the triangle and its mysteries into the limelight and thus getting the attention of the public. This followed the commissioning of a large Mariner Flying boat to go and search for the planes over the Atlantic. To the amusement of many, they too did not return. The six planes and the 27 crew members destined to search the planes disappeared never to come back. Following these incidences were more disappearances that remained unexplained. In attempts to do find a solution, many people came up with myths explaining the behavior of the Bermuda triangle. All the investigators postulated theories in attempts to explain the mysteries satisfactorily. The theories have remained more bizarre, yet they gain the backing of the majority of the audience. Indeed, these theories lack the scientific support and adequate data to support the assertions that gain the praise of the unsuspecting audience. Books written in attempts to explain the unfolding events of Bermuda Triangle cite the presence of large magnets, sudden and giant waves, the changes in the moon’s position, extra-terrestrials, electrostatic charges and time and space warps as the main causes of the disappearances and mysteries experienced at the Bermuda Triangle (Buzzle, 2013).
The myths behind the Bermuda triangle have a variety of origins. How exactly did the phenomenon surrounding the Bermuda triangle come to being and gain a lot of popularity yet evidence shows that there is nothing that yields mystery within the triangle? In the early 1950s, years after a series of disappearances, magazines and newspapers articles, were published concerning the unfolding events of Bermuda triangle. Later, documentaries and well authored textbooks were released. These explained the myths appropriately and analyzed the various aspects that explained the cause of the disappearances. These alternatives helped in building the myths over time. Critical analysis of these recordings reveals the fact that the different authors never did a thorough research to investigate the reported incidents (Buzzle, 2013). Rather, they went ahead to document their explanations that were not satisfactory. Had they done so, the knowledge that the area was as risky as other parts of the ocean would have been common amongst them. This way, the myths could not have been spread and conceptualized by the majority who believed the stories written about the Bermuda Triangle.
Several investigators of the incidents have some credible theories that explain the happening. What really are these explanations that try to explain the phenomenon that forms the myths of the Bermuda Triangle? A more credible theory is supported by Dr Richard McIver. He attributes the Bermuda Triangle incidences to the presence of high levels of Methane Hydrate. This gas was discovered in the region in 1930s and consisted of a mixture of flammable gases including methane, propane, butane and ethane. The conditions favorable for the formation of the gases are present in Bermuda Triangle, under the ocean. The molecules of methane hydrate are believed to capture large amounts of gas and release large amounts of gas on breaking. Sediments that are piled on the slopes of the continental plates may tumble causing the removal of the hydrate layer which releases the trapped methane gas. The gas bubbles up the ocean creating a region of decreased density, which may make a ship or planes over the region to be swamped by the waves. The gas is highly explosive and may consume the vessels that get trapped meaning that they will never be traced again. Wreckages of the ships and planes may be covered by the tectonic plates and never appear again (Buzzle, 2013). However, there lack reliable data to support these assertions. Therefore, taking them to be facts is misleading to the public forming yet another myth that waits to be clarified. Recorded deaths, weather statistics and conditions, are well documented, but there lacks the wreckage since these vessels goes missing.
Scientific research has proved the fact that the area around Bermuda Triangle is unusual. Really, has there been any successful research to reveal the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle? The fact remains that no scientist or scientific research has been carried out successfully to explain the events that occur at the Bermuda Triangle. The region is located in a hostile environment surrounded by a deep ocean. These make difficult any research directed towards the discovery of the causes of the behavior experienced at the region. According to the BermudaTriangle.Org, no science expedition has been launched to investigate the triangle. Assertions that the myths are scientifically proven remain a fallacy since it is difficult to establish facilities that would enable study of the phenomenon that take place at the region (Bermudatriangle.org, n. d.).
Rogue and sudden tidal waves are to blame for the problems experienced at the Bermuda Triangle. Are the anomaly geomagnetic waves to blame for the navigational problems that are blamed for confusing the navigators? Latest science finds an answer to the mystery by suggesting that static electricity that are very severe, induce harm on the human’s central nervous system. These then continue to cause the pilot to unconsciousness which happens amidst aeronautics and astronautics influences. As a result, Bermuda being a centre where static electricity is common, there is a likelihood that this causes the pilots and their vessels to plunge into the ocean. This is a false assertion. Testing the hypothesis, it is hard to prove that the pilots pass out during the flight since this is hard to prove. Moreover, it has not been proved that the region experiences static electricity. However, the hypothesis is being tested since electrical and electromagnetic impacts on the area are under study. The existing conclusions that support this myth are baseless and fail the natural logic. This proves the fact that the assertions made concerning the Bermuda Triangle are a complete hoax (Bermudatriangle.org, n. d.).
The incidences of the region are highly attributed to the areas’ unique features that relate to the environment. Does the environment have anything to do with these disappearances?
