Capstone project: Substance Abuse among the Youth
From my experience, while working as a community health care officer in my respective previous community, the above community health issue among the youth is one thing I would seek to see the community is educated on. This is one main issue affecting youths in the 21st century where many youths in various communities need to be helped with formal education about drug and substance abuse in accordance to its effects on health and the entire community. They should be taught how to control and curb the problem by getting knowledge on how to control the addiction which comes from the case of substance abuse. The main goal of this study is to help reduce the population of the youth abusing drugs and substances in order to protect their health, lives and give them quality life (Healthy people, 2019).
In 2005, estimates show that more than 22 million people in the USA most commonly the youth were found to be struggling with drug or alcohol addictions. About 95% of those found to be struggling with this condition are unaware of their problem and more than 200,000 people are found not to have made an effort to get treatment hence there is a need for educating the community. This issue becomes a very important one since it has a serious significant influence on individual, families and the community. Its cost is cumulative and generally contributes to the high cost of social, physical, mental and public health issues.
